Re: Arpex - 30ft. tacking outrigger

Hi Jerry, yes, the Va'a Motu style has greatly influenced the design of Arpex. However, for a cabined dayboat, which also pretends to do some more extended tours, and maybe overnighting, I believe that more volume would be required in the ama, than the slim Va'a Motu design offers. And I agree, for ...

Re: Arpex - 30ft. tacking outrigger

Hi Rob, I am starting to get a more objective assessment on the different speed potentials for the different tacks. However, it is funny how it is difficult to really get this objective view. Why? Because I still need to learn how to properly sail the boat! An example: Last saturday, in about 8-10 k...

Re: Arpex - 30ft. tacking outrigger

Hi Jerry, I think the dymensions of the ama on Arpex, are about right, but slightly on the large side. I say this because I feel that stability is amply provided on both tacks and on all points of sail. And having a smaller ama, would imput less twisting stress on the structure. As for outrigger dym...

Re: Arpex - 30ft. tacking outrigger

Jerry, the replacement of the pins for lashings might be a good thing. I didn't find a way. But the feature of a a shock load absorbing connection would surely be a benefit. As for the ama... if I were to build now, I would build it about 80cm to 100cm shorter... 50 cm at the bow and 30cm at the ste...

Re: Arpex - 30ft. tacking outrigger

Hi Jerry,

... can't believe my lenghty post just got lost....
Well, thanks for the positive feedback.
You are the first to observe and comment on the deck and dingy. In fact very convenient, and I love it.
I'll come back to that later.
Cheers,
Peter

Re: Arpex - 30ft. tacking outrigger

Sailing Arpex has become more routined by now. I can take the boat quickly for a short spin. The good thing is, that it handles well even in the light winds, that are very common her in our bay.

Again I am thrilled that the boat sails itself so comfortably.

Re: Nixe

Ha! I suspect there were two pesons on the boat, while flying the drone. And for other takes, for that matter. Also when the images were taken from the dinghy, while holding on to the dock. It seems reasonable to assume that there was another person on the boat, in order to sail it. Unless you are b...

Re: Nixe

Hi Alexander, thanks for producing and editing this video. I find it very entertaining and interesting. As I enjoy doing this sort of thing, I know the challenge that it is, to get some outside views of a sailing boat. And boy! you managed to get some very good ones! Thanks also for sharing your sai...

Re: Arpex - 30ft. tacking outrigger

Hi Marco, my experience has been positive. it is definitely a fun boat to sail, and confortable. In that sense I am really happy. I am still trying to get a more objective evaluation, with some sore of polar diagramm done. All my sailing backround is based on monohulls. therefore, I am still getting...
