New 34' performance proa for sale

Post by R-Finn » 29 Nov 2017, 18:09

Hi guys,

An acquaintance has a pretty neat proa for sale due to some unfortunate circumstances. The boat is of his own design and build and he has a long history of professional boat building. Due to health issues, the boat has only been sailing one time and is now looking for a serious owner who wants to do something special with it.

Details as I have them:
Build:

-6mm ply, outside glassed with Dynel and Vinyl Ester. Deck is the same laminate.

-Inside glassed to the chine with 6oz cloth.

-Epoxy was used for bonding stringers and frames, among other parts

-Hulls were constructed in Arizona to assure the wood was as dry as possible for lamination before moving the project to Florida to be finished.

-Beams: From owner "The I beam was constructed over a plywood box that was foam filled, no air voids!! Then I laminated 5 layers of 1/8" cedar on top, 4 under the box, then unidirectional glass over that, and glassed in between"

-Mast is a Melges 24 rig on a rotating base and rigging is synthetic.

-Boat is currently in Labelle, Florida and demountable for trailering

-Trailer included

LOA: 33.8'
LWL: 33'
Beam: 20.6
LOA/Ama: 23.6'
Hull draft: 20"
Weight: 1,700
Disp/Length: 21.1
SA/D: 33.8

Contact me at 2oceans1rock@gmail.com for pictures and information as I cannot attach pictures which I have many of.

Ryan,

Really nice boat... I particularly like the spray steps on the vaka, and the use of a Melges 24 rig is very economical, plenty of second hand sails about.... But could look a bit squat on a 34 footer.

How much is he asking?

Yeah, it's a pretty cool boat. I'd like to see it end up in the hands of someone who will really light it up. Asking $20,000, but if anyone is interested, please contact my email. Rob, I know you have a boat already, but if you can think of anyone who might be interested feel free to forward them to this link. Thanks.

Ryan,

Most of my contacts are on the wrong side of the Pacific to be of any use...... But for any US or Canadian Proa sailor wannabees, subject to condition and outboard arrangements, I reckon it is a bargain.

A look at the CLC website will tell you that a Madness kit plus rig, motor etc will cost you $USD 40k for the materials minimum. And then there is around 2 years of part time labour on top. My Proa cost about the same with 3 years labour.....

IIRC, the original Madness went for around $USD 40k also. And this Proa could have more space and headroom below?

Go for it guys.....

Looks like a great boat. I wonder how it steers, with the rudders far from the ends.
If it was on the west coast, I'll be tempted. If it was in Puget Sound I could sail it home... I'm sure LOL wouldn't mind...
Ryan, thanks for sharing. It's always good to hear about more proas, even in unfortunate circumstances. It's a great opportunity for someone.

cpcanoesailor,

It could easily be on the West coast. It has a trailer! :)

If it is a half decent trailer.... It's definitely a bargain!

Take it for a test sail?

Go for it Curtis... You know you want to.......

Hmm, only 3400 miles there and another 3400 miles back to Vancouver.

There's a brief appearance of this boat in LuckyFish's latest video (15:18):

How about interior pictures? With the rudders so oddly close to center, it looks like the cabin must be limited to only the space between the beams?
